Julie Hunter Denoncourt was born in Montreal on October 21 1967. She took her first art classes with Renate Heidersdorf at La Palette. She moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada, in 1980, and went on to study Fine Arts at Red Deer College, and Industrial Design at the University of Alberta. In 1990 she moved to Vancouver, BC, to return to Fine Arts at The Emiliy Carr University of Arts + Design, where she studied primarily under Sally Michner and Rick Ross. In 1993 she was awarded a diploma in Fine Arts with a major in Sculptural Studio Arts. Later she returned to Alberta and completed a Bachelor's Degree in Fine arts at the University of Calgary in 1997. She lived in Kananaskis Country for 12 years and recently moved back to Calgary. Her abstraction style is based on her design background and on her fascination for pattern, texture, colour, and nature in their infinite possibilities.
